Zeme is led by a multidisciplinary team of scientists, biotech entrepreneurs, and ecosystem builders with experience across genomics, diagnostics, drug discovery, agricultural biotechnology, and research infrastructure in Africa and the United States. The team has a proven track record in building laboratories, training scientific talent, incubating biotech startups, and translating research into commercial and public-health solutions, supported by active partnerships with global biotech hubs in Boston and San Francisco that enable technology transfer, investment, and diaspora-driven collaboration.
The Accra–Boston–San Francisco Bio-Innovation Corridor is a trilateral partnership linking Ghana’s emerging life-sciences and biomanufacturing ecosystem with the world’s two most powerful biotechnology hubs in the United States. Accra serves as Africa’s launchpad for research translation, clinical validation, and manufacturing, while Boston and San Francisco provide front-end discovery, venture capital, regulatory pathways, and global market access.
Through this corridor, innovations flow both ways: African biological resources, clinical insights, and market needs drive discovery and product design in U.S. hubs, while U.S. technologies, capital, and expertise are localized, manufactured, and scaled in Ghana for Africa and global markets. This creates a shared innovation economy not aid, not outsourcing, but co-development, co-investment, and co-ownership of the next generation of biotech, diagnostics, vaccines, and bio-based industries.
The partnership positions Accra as West Africa’s biotechnology gateway, Boston as the global center for biomedical research and venture science, and San Francisco as the engine of biotech commercialization and platform technologies, together forming a unified pipeline from African discovery to global impact.
We're thrilled to announce that the Zeme Business Seminar was an incredible success! On August 9th, 2023, we hosted the event at the Airport West Hotel and welcomed speakers who delivered fantastic talks on understanding investor perspectives, navigating the startup ecosystem in Ghana, and investment readiness for early-stage businesses.
Zeme builds, funds, and scales biotechnology and life sciences ventures that address Ghana’s most pressing health, agriculture, and bioeconomy challenges. We provide early-stage capital, hands-on venture building, and shared research and laboratory infrastructure to help innovators move from discovery to commercialization. Through strategic management, partnerships, and impact-driven investment, we enable sustainable, science-based companies to grow and deliver measurable economic and social value.
Zeme invests patient, impact-oriented capital in early- and growth-stage biotechnology and life sciences ventures in Ghana and across Africa. We structure flexible investment instruments and pair capital with active management and technical support to reduce risk, accelerate growth, and improve investability. Our investment approach prioritizes scalable solutions, strong governance, and measurable social and economic impact alongside financial returns. We invest in key industries including healthcare, education, agriculture, technology, data science and AI, manufacturing, imports, exports and investor relationships.
Zeme operates a Bioinnovation Hub that provides shared laboratory infrastructure, co-working space, and technical support for startups, researchers, and innovators. The hub lowers barriers to entry for biotech entrepreneurship by offering access to core facilities, mentorship, and industry partnerships, enabling teams to rapidly prototype, validate, and scale bio-based solutions aligned with regional and global needs. Zeme focuses on high-impact sectors at the intersection of science and development, including biotechnology and life sciences, clinical trials and global health, agricultural biotechnology and food systems, drug discovery and natural products, diagnostics and medical devices, and bio-based innovation platforms.

In furtherance of our mandate and mission to connects African Innovators and global investors and empower business growth, we host the Zeme Business Seminar (ZBS) series.
